The Corning 5L Erlenmeyer flask is designed to help scale-up suspension culture with space efficiency in mind. The flasks are sterile and ready-to-use, ideal for shaker culture applications, and storage. Closed cell culture systems help reduce the risk of adventitious contamination during drug development and manufacturing. Corning offers closed systems accessories with vessels to help transfer liquid aseptically. The internal end is a rigid polypropylene dip tube designed to reach the bottom of the flask. The venting port ends in a 50mm diameter vent filter with a 0.2 µm pore PVDF membrane and a barbed fitting. The liquid transfer port uses a 1/4" ID (3/8" OD) chemically resistant, heat sealable flexible tubing on the external side of the cap ending in a male plastic coupler (MPC) male disconnect with a sealing cap.

- · Erlenmeyer flasks are autoclavable once at 121°C, 15psi for 20 minutes. Repeated autoclaving weakens the flask and is not recommended. Vent cap is not autoclavable.

1.Efficient Expansion of Suspension CHO Cells in Corning® 5 Liter Erlenmeyer Flasks
Erlenmeyer flasks are commonly used for expansion of a variety of suspension cell lines for bioprocessing applications. Corning provides disposable Erlenmeyer flasks ranging from 125 mL to 3L in size. Corning has developed a 5L Erlenmeyer flask with the same footprint as a traditional 3L Erlenmeyer flask.

2.Corning® Baffled Erlenmeyer Flasks Increase Medium Aeration for Better Cell Culture Performance
In this technical report, we demonstrate that new baffled Erlenmeyer flasks from Corning generate significantly higher aeration than plain Erlenmeyer flasks which can have important implications in cell health, cell production and yield.

3.The Corning® 5L Erlenmeyer Flask Provides an Ideal Choice for Efficient Scale-Up of Suspension Cells
Corning’s new vessel design allows for the culture volume to be increased to one half of the stated volume of the vessel without compromising cell viability or density. The increased volume ratio results in a greater number of cells (higher cell yield) cultured in less space. In this study, we demonstrate that the Corning 5L Erlenmeyer flask exhibits enhanced performance compared to a competitor’s 5L Erlenmeyer flask when culturing a suspension cell line commonly used for baculovirus production.
